SocraticDialogue.com is based on the work of Christopher Phillips. In his book of 2001, "Socrates Cafe: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy", Mr. Phillips outlined a form of "popular philosophy" based on the concept that philosophy is not something you study, but something you do.

Plato wrote in Parmenides that "without wandering around and examining everything in detail one is unable to secure understanding." In the course of Socrates Cafe, Mr. Phillips travels around asking questions of everyone who's interested. He searches out public conversations--what he calls Socrates Cafes--with children, seniors, psychiatrists, prisoners, ex-academics, students, lawyers, and everyday people.

SocraticDialogue.com believes that this ..., what the Greeks called "elenchus," a method of inquiry that helps people see their own beliefs and opinions more clearly ... is educational, enlightening, good for our body politic, and ... good entertainment.
